Today Everything Will Happen at Once
by Impet

Impet crumpled the fortune cookie's statement in her palm, her head tipped to the side as she considered the day she'd had just prior. Fflewddur had invited her to join a group of others in Elysium with the warning that it would be quite difficult. The group had finished both 'days' there in rapid succession and with only four deaths, two of them Impet's. The adventure had been a strange mixture of urgent action and fairly long waits, the waiting actually rather pleasant as Imp was reasonably sure that she wouldn't make any mistakes during that part. And the waiting gave her a chance to congratulate her townmate Pode, who was offering teasing clues to the fact that he had just captured a short lived double experience spell from a khrait scoutship, but did not yet have all of the required materials to cast the spell.

So, if yesterday could have been described by a fortune that read 'Today your adventure will include two days as one' or perhaps, 'You shall hear a tantalizing rumor while you are quite busy', what sort of day did this new fortune portend, that 'Today everything will happen at once'?

With a shrug, Impet cast the scrap of paper away and idly flicked a grain of rice from the tabletop where she sat. Enough of a meal and enough of a break, if 'everything' was going on out there in the world, she definitely wanted to be part of it. Dancing was always fun, and for Impet the ship Dance of the Fae Gull was one of the best places to dance, so she traveled to the ship and set sail, reasoning that 'everything' could happen as easily on the ocean as on land.

The serpents charging the Dance this day were largely mellow and slow and in fairly rapid order Impet had secured close to three million fae inside the ship's structure. The wind was blowing away from the docks, slowing her return and tempting her to stay out longer despite the nearness of a few patches of fae crabs, which she was carefully avoiding.

Several members of her clan had logged in recently, and various plans were made between them. One, Kaltare, who had so recently helped her find one of the Thanksgiving holo-sections and earn that year's reward and was steadily learning shipping, cheered about leaving the dock, then described the first serpent he had chummed as 'pink'. With a frown, Impet started to offer a warning about violet serpents and their speed, when Kaltare announced that it was ruby, not pink. The warning forgotten, Impet concentrated on the small swarm of baby serpents she was dancing with, a fraction of her attention on Kaltare's comments about his progress.

Then Kaltare grew quiet, and Impet more concerned. Silence probably meant a problem, and her quick question of 'Going good, Kalt?' was answered by a slightly garbled reply of 'well its goin'. Impet gazed at the two serpents near her ship and wondered what things were like aboard Kaltare's boat, waiting another moment until the Dance's guns were ready to fire another volley. Another short garble from Kaltare, 'im still alove', followed seconds later by the certainty that he had just been killed.

Impet angrily chased the two serpents threatening her Dance, trying to kill them both as quickly as possible. Kaltare revived, and Impet sent a small flurry of possibly unnecessary instructions and questions, were there ruby kah aboard now, how to get back aboard safely if so, what needed to be done? The serpents threatening her now dead, she rapidly calculated the odds, and decided to leave her ship, briefly, to go assist him. Near a thousand risk, she really did not wish to allow things to calm enough to attract any of the other ocean beasts aboard her boat before she returned. As long as she soon returned, however, she decided that she would probably be able to help without causing problems aboard her own ship.

Her choice made, Impet traveled to Kaltare's ship and attempted to help. Pode delayed his quest for the remaining ingredients of his stolen khrait spell and appeared to help as well. There was not to much to be done, really. Just advice and some repairs, but there were many damaged guns and Kaltare soon chose to call upon Vryce's preserving hand to quit the adventure without further risk to his ship. More strategy was discussed, then Impet returned to the Dance, and froze in horror.

A solid wall of pink, a writhing horizon of fae crabs seethed just barely off the stern of the ship. The stern... her ship, untended, had passed through the approximate center of this gigantic mass of crabs. And now she could hear them, running, drumming, tearing at the ship, the terrified calls of the crew. She stammered the words to a shielding spell, guarding the helm from intrusion, then started to try and count.

Gathering her meager courage, Impet attempted to find a small cluster of crabs, and see if she could fight them in ones or twos. Her explorations only dismayed her further, and only the fact that she -was- wimpy spared her life.

Impet returned to the relative calm of Kaltare's ship, where she found him, having lost the serpent through Vryce's mercy and the boon of brief serpent memories, now gamely struggling to return it to a dock he was not sure how to locate. She helped him figure out how to navigate when his destination was outside of survey range, then settled in to work upon repairs, feeling very glad for the rest, and starting to recall the fortune cookie and its oddly accurate prediction, when she was startled out of her reverie.

You hear Urndano Queild shout, 'There is a termite queen at Starboard Gun 5!'.

A short while later the termites were dead. Repairs and lessons resumed as the ship dealt with a headwind and its captain considered learning how to tack into the wind, as well as whether he wished to continue hunting serpents once the ship was safely repaired. But this discussion was soon interrupted.

[TOWN] Prince Pode (56) says, 'incoming 2x xp'.

[TOWN] Lady Impet (6) says, 'Pode is a god!'.

[TOWN] Jado (6) says, '$^#&$*# lets get a form goin'.

[CE] Ludi-Jado: everyone thank pode for what is about to happen

[TOWN] Prince Kaltare (6) says, 'nods lets keel crabs in imps boat'.

[CE] Tithonus: thx pode

Another serpent rose alongside the ship as fog started to settle over the water, necessitating more instructions how to quickly change directions to the hands aboard, since the ship was mostly repaired. A headshot was missed, the ship severely damaged again, then promptly returned to Vryce's merciful protection.

The sky *erupts* turns pink and blue, and *POPS* back to normal! The magic in the area rushes upward! Someone has cast the secret ship spell to double experience for a day! [CE] Vryce: Pode has cast the double experience secret ship spell! It is DOUBLE EXPERIENCE for a day!!

[CE] Clamurai: it even says his name on gameinfo :)

gameinfo Pode initiated DOUBLE EXPERIENCE until Mon Nov 29 14:38:09 2010 Experience increased to 2.68x from 34% increasing fog density.

Exhausted, Impet bowed out of her excited town's plans to celebrate Pode's largess. She'd had two days in one, followed by a strong need to be so many places at once, and she was done, except she was hungry again. She turned towards her favorite cafe near the inn, the one which offered her the intriguing fortune cookies, ones so often prophetic. She ordered her meal, then held the complimentary cookie gingerly between two fingers, as yet unopened. As exciting as Medievia was, on the Founder's World at least, she really needed a nap before seeing what was surely going to happen next.
