TITLERULES

See Help TITLE and Help CLANTITLE for information on the two types of
titles available and how to obtain and set them. The same rules apply to
both kinds of titles.

Custom titles may have up to 40 characters, and clan titles 30 characters.
This includes all spaces and punctuation marks.

Titles are meant to be epithets, not jokes or announcements. Treat them
seriously.

Rules in a nutshell:

- Get permission to use any players name; god names are not allowed
- Keep it medieval in theme; ask a god if youre unsure
- Capitalize appropriately
- Do not use slang, symbols, emoticons, or pictures
- Do not use ending punctuation; remember is here. will be after the
title
- Do not attempt to use special characters beyond letters, numbers, and
punctuation
- Use only English in clantitles; custom titles may have foreign words at
gods discretion
- Make it make sense as part of a sentence in the players room description
- Do not bash clans, players, the game, or anything else
- Do not reference real life, especially religion, politics, drugs, sex,
race, or crime
- Do not use silly or made-up words; ask a god if youre unsure
- Do not illuminate a names hidden meaning
- Use numerals sparingly

Enforcement
***

The gods, as a group, have final say on the appropriateness of every
title. They will check and discuss custom titles before setting them. Clan
titles are checked regularly, and your clan will lose the ability to
bestow titles if it is abused.

The real estate department reviews clan and custom titles regularly for
consistency. If a god deems the title inappropriate, whether it was set by
a clan or a god, it is that gods say and will be changed at that gods
discretion. If you argue and end up getting higher-level gods involved,
you will regret it.

If your clan has one or a few bad titles, they will be removed, and the
leader and/or coleader will get a mudmailed warning.

If your clan has many bad titles, your clans ability to bestow titles at
all will be removed for 30 days, and all members clantitles will be wiped
out. A CLANNEWS will be posted to inform the clan of this. You can
petition for the restoration of title privileges after the 30 days are up
by e-mailing realestate@medievia.com.

A second offense will result in 60 days of no titles, and further offenses
may result in 90 or 180 days of no titles, or even a permanent loss. Clan
leaders and coleaders who habitually set bad titles can and will be frozen
for it.

***
In case the simple rules above are unclear, here are more details:
***

- Do not use a gods name in your title. Do not use another players name,
including your bloodline, unless you have their permission.

- Titles must be medieval in theme; if they refer to the game they refer
to the game WORLD; not to things like spam, MEDLINK, lag, and so on.

- Use correct capitalization. Capital letters are not for decoration.

- Do not use punctuation marks to put roses, smiley faces, or -=decorations=-
in your title.

- Your title must fit perfectly into the sentence Yourname [ ] is
here. If your title begins with a letter, it will have a space before
it. If your title begins with a comma, the comma will be properly placed
touching your name. This is simple, first-grade grammar, and it is not
difficult to figure out whether your title makes a correct sentence or not.

- Gods can have color titles; players cannot. Some quests allow color
titles for players for the duration of the quest only. If you find a way
to get high ASCII characters, such as those used in the MAP, into your
title, it will be removed.

- Medievia is in English. If you wish to use a foreign word or phrase in
your title, it must be a custom title, set by a god, NOT a clantitle, and
you must be open and honest with the god about what the word or phrase
means.

- Your title must fit perfectly into the sentence Yourname [ ] is
here. If your title begins with a letter, it will have a space before
it. If your title begins with a comma, the comma will be properly placed
touching your name. This is simple, first-grade grammar, and it is not
difficult to figure out whether your title makes a correct sentence or
not. Yes, this bears repeating.

- It should go without saying that putting any sort of bashing in your
title will result in the same punishments as bashing on any channel or on
the bulletin board.

- Titles must not reference anything outside the world of Medievia or
anything that could be construed as offensive to anyone. Avoid the
topics of race, politics, gender, sex, religion, drugs, crime, and
violence, just as if you were talking politely to your mother or a teacher.

- While made-up last names are allowed, they must fit into the world;
ask a god if youre unsure. Other fake or silly words, nonsense sounds, or
silly titles like , the fluffy bunny warrior, are not allowed.

- Do not use your title to explain the hidden meaning of your name or to
make a pun with it. For example, if your name were Astormy, the title
night (Astormy night is here.) would not be allowed.

- If you have a reasonable reason to put a numeral in your title (for
instance, , 8th in Command, or , 1st Mate on the Jasmine Princess, do
so. Dont use numerals to do stupid things like put your stats in your
title or add x10 to an adjective.

General notes
***

Please note that some words may be allowed in one title but denied for
another depending on the context in which the word is used. There are
always grey areas in titles, and this is up to the god setting the title
to decide. While all gods can set titles if they choose, real estate
reviews clan and custom titles regularly for consistency. If a god deems
the title inappropriate, whether it was set by a clan or a god, it is that
gods say and will be changed at that gods discretion. If you argue and
end up getting higher-level gods involved, you will regret it.

We want you to have a title you like. These rules are not arbitrary, and
they are not meant to take the fun out of titles. They are meant to keep
titles appropriate, just as we have rules for speaking on channels. You
are welcome to use fun titles, just as you are welcome to have fun on
global channels, as long as it is kept appropriate and respectful. These
rules aim to address those problems, which have cropped up in the past.
Exceptions can always be made at the discretion of the gods, but blanket
rules allow for us to keep titles in the game. Please keep this in mind
when reviewing the title rules and when setting a title.
