Description:
Long ago, just before Lattyrna slipped beneath the waves forever, a small group was able to foresee the impending doom of the city. They escaped with their own lives, but were forced to see families and friends lost under the ocean, never to be seen again. As they watched the great disaster, they made a pact with each other, that they would fight to prevent such tragedies in the future. Their vision was a great center of learning, where students were taught not only arcane lore, but also morality, to stave off the arrogance that led to the fall of Lattyrna. It took years, but they did eventually fulfill their dreams, in the city of Vanlarra. As Vanlarra's reputation grew, students from all across the land came to learn from the great mages that assembled there. So many students applied for apprenticeship, in fact, that the teachers were forced to turn many away, accepting as their pupils only the brightest and most promising. Many of the rejected ones returned gloomily to their homes, but many others, clinging desperately to the hope of eventual enrollment in the school, remained in the area. They did whatever small jobs they could find, and constructed their own housing out of scrap if they could not afford more luxurious quarters.
