  • Description:
A report to the researchers at the Trellor Library concerning the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum, written by Tembulitus the bard. He has not been heard from since he wrote this.

I compose this at the start of the Month of Trellor's Founding. After making an extended journey to Ezekiel's Mansion, I have been able to turn my gaze to the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum, something I have been seeking for a long time. I now make the following report.

Rumors of the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum, which was hidden behind powerful magic, have been heard by many tavern patrons. Until now everyone has believed them to be false. I say 'until now' because I have found the portal that leads to the city.

For those who are not familiar with the tales of the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum, I shall tell you some of what I know. The city was founded on the principles of harmony and peace. It was inhabited by powerful mages and filled with joy and happiness. No one knows why it was sealed off from the rest of the land by magic, and no one knows if this magic was good or evil. The only other information tales tell is that there is a portal hidden in the wilderness that leads to the city, and that men can walk like gods there.

I stumbled across the portal one day by pure luck. I travelled through a dark forest and a burning plain. I travelled past a river of blood and through dark, hellish gates. Finally I came to the gates of the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum. To my horror the city was not what I expected it to be. It was filled with terrible creatures, and darkness surrounded it. After my journey to the city and the sights I saw I was hardly surprised.

From what I gathered on my brief stay in that dark place, when the city was sealed off from the outside world the peaceful citizens were warped into evil monstrosities. That is not the worst part, though, for the city is ruled over by a cruel being that finds joy in the torments he brings to the city. Perhaps the only way to restore the city to its harmonious past is to find the creature's power and destroy it--and destroy him.

I have ventured there once and vow never to go back, but for those brave fools who follow my steps I have left clues to guide you.

Other notable information found by researchers concerns a temple that Tembulitus saw while he was within the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum.

The temple belongs to a very old order called 'The Order of the Forgotten Arrow.' No one remembers why it is named this, or even its origins. It is rumored that very dark and also very enlightened magics are preformed within the temple's confines. The current temple is well over two hundred years old, according to the plaque left when it was consecrated. The priests who reside in its depths may have all died a long time ago, or they may still be roaming its halls. Adventurers are advised to be extremly careful when entering the temple, as no one can tell what horrors it may hold.
