Kukdheuda sat brooding in his lair in the realm of mortals. He wondered how he had let himself fall so far in such a short time. He closed his eyes as a memory washed over him...
The chamber was filled with billowing white sheets hanging from the domed ceiling. Golden goblets, brimming with a dark red wine, sat on a white marble slab. Around the slab were soft pillows strewn with pink rose petals. The sound of flowing water could be heard throughout the chamber. Resting on the pillows and holding Liarah in his arms, Kukdheuda felt complete. His worries faded, and he experienced a sensation of utter tranquility.
"Eternally I am yours," he whispered.
"Eternally," responded Liarah, running her fingers through Kukdheuda's hair.
Kukdheuda shook has head sharply, willing the image out of his mind. He remembered his vow to never again allow temptation to control his actions. Rising, he clutched his gleaming broadsword tightly as another memory came...
Xune charged into the chamber, his hair aflame and his eyes spinning madly with jealousy. Kukdheuda and Liarah sprang to their feet and cowered against the far wall, trying to shield each other. Then, demonstrating his domination over mortal emotions, Xune instantly became calm.
"Adultery is a matter for the High Council," he said somberly.
Kukdheuda opened his eyes again and fumed silently. The inequitable and unjust punishment he had received angered him more than all else. Yet, still he longed for Liarah. As he began the incantations to summon yet another demon, Kukdheuda glanced at the words carved into the wall above the altar. The inscription read:
Grant Me Deliverance from Temptation.
