Eldrick soon amassed a small army and pushed Vecna back to the current temple of Bloodstone . After the murder of Cecilia, his wife, Eldrick led a group of volunteers to the temple to slay the lich but were instead brutally killed by Vecna's general, Soth. They managed to lock Vecna inside the temple but were cursed to an eternity of undeath until a true could retrieve Eldrick's sword and finally slay Vecna with it.
