Magic Exchange Banks

Magic Exchange Banks

The Magic Exchange Banks are a MedLink feature that allow players to safely store and trade five of the Six Magics of Medievia: Fae, Qae, Zae, Pae, and Vae.

Each magic has its own Exchange Bank in MedLink. Players may visit the appropriate bank to deposit magic they are carrying, withdraw stored magic, examine the current market, place magic for sale, purchase magic offered by other players, review their active orders, and examine their recent transaction history.

A Player-Driven Magic Market

The Magic Exchange does not create magic and does not purchase magic from players. Every unit offered for sale belongs to another player, and every unit purchased was earned or created somewhere in Medievia.

Prices are therefore determined entirely by player supply and demand. If a particular magic becomes scarce, its value may rise. If large quantities reach the market, prices may fall. Demand for Pae or Vae may also influence the value of the other magics used to create them.

The Exchange simply provides the marketplace where buyers and sellers meet.

Storing Magic

Players may deposit Fae, Qae, Zae, Pae, and Vae into their Magic Exchange storage. Magic stored in MedLink is protected from the normal dissipation that can affect some forms of magic while adventuring.

Players may withdraw their stored magic whenever they wish. Alternate characters may also deposit and withdraw magic, but all Exchange storage belongs to the player's PRIMARY character.

Alternates share the primary player's Magic Exchange account and cannot create buy or sell orders.

Selling Magic

A player may place stored magic on the Exchange at a price of their choosing.

When a sale order is created, the magic is removed from the player's available storage and held safely by the Exchange. A listing fee equal to 3% of the potential sale value is immediately charged from the player's banked gold.

Orders remain active for seven days. If an order expires, any unsold magic is returned automatically to the player's Exchange storage. Players may also cancel their own orders, although the original listing fee is not refunded.

Orders cannot be edited. A player who wishes to change a price or quantity must cancel the existing order and create a new one.

Buying Magic

Buyers do not choose individual sellers. The Exchange always purchases the lowest-priced magic first.

When several players are offering magic at the same price, the oldest order is filled first. This creates a fair price-and-time priority system.

Purchases may cross several different orders and price levels. Each seller receives exactly the asking price of their own order.

Partial purchases are allowed. If a player attempts to buy 500 units of magic but only 327 are currently available, the available 327 may still be purchased.

Price Protection

The Exchange includes protection against unexpectedly large jumps in price.

If a purchase would suddenly move into a price tier more than 25% higher than the previous price being purchased, the Exchange stops before consuming the unusually expensive order.

A player who deliberately wishes to purchase at the higher price may specify a maximum acceptable price and explicitly authorize the Exchange to continue up to that amount.

Sales Commission

When magic sells, the seller's proceeds are deposited directly into their Medievia bank account.

The Exchange deducts a 3% sales commission from completed sales. Together with the listing fee, this provides a gold sink that scales naturally with the amount of trading taking place in the economy.

Partial sales do not unfairly increase the commission. The Exchange tracks the cumulative value sold from each order so that the total commission remains the intended percentage regardless of how many separate purchases fill the order.

Market Information

Each Magic Exchange Bank maintains current market information for its magic.

Players may view available quantities at each asking price as well as trading information from the previous 24 hours, including:

  • Last Sale Price
  • 24-Hour Low Price
  • 24-Hour High Price
  • 24-Hour Volume Sold

Only completed trades affect these statistics. A player may list magic for any price they wish, but an asking price does not influence the market ticker until another player actually purchases the magic.

Anonymous Trading

Magic Exchange trading is anonymous.

Players cannot see who owns the orders displayed in the public market, buyers cannot select a particular seller, and sellers do not learn the identity of their buyers through normal Exchange commands.

Medievia staff can inspect the true ownership of orders and transaction records when necessary for administration.

Primary Players and Alternates

Every Magic Exchange account belongs to a PRIMARY player.

Alternate characters may deposit magic into the primary account and withdraw magic from it, allowing a player's multiplaying characters to share the same stored supply.

Only the PRIMARY character may buy magic, sell magic, or cancel market orders.

This keeps the Exchange economy associated with the player identity known throughout MedLink rather than allowing each alternate character to operate as a separate trader.

Exchange Commands

Each Magic Exchange Bank provides the following commands:

[BALANCE - DEPOSIT - WITHDRAW - HISTORY - MARKET - BUY - SELL - ORDERS]

Because each magic has its own physical bank, players do not need to repeatedly specify which magic they are trading. Walking into the Fae Exchange Bank means the commands there operate on Fae; walking into the Pae Exchange Bank means they operate on Pae.

The Five Exchange Magics

Fae is ocean magic, earned through Medievia's ocean features.

Zae is space and dimensional magic, used to power MedLink and future features involving dimensions and space.

Qae is soul magic, associated with the actual souls playing Medievia and features such as Heroes from the Past, Hero Battles, Bloodlines, and other soul-centered systems.

Pae is planet magic, created by combining Rae, Fae, and Zae. It is used to make temporary magical changes to the world.

Vae is created from Pae and Qae and is used for more persistent changes to Medievia, including homes, ships, the Underworld, player businesses, and other lasting creations.

A Living Economy

The Magic Exchange Banks turn Medievia's magics into true player-traded commodities.

A player who spends time gathering Fae may decide whether to use it, store it, or sell it. Another player preparing to create Pae may discover that Zae has become scarce and valuable. A sudden demand for Vae may increase demand for Pae and Qae, which can then affect the value of the magics required farther down the chain.

None of this requires an artificial market formula.

The players create the economy themselves.
