What to expect in a dragon lair

Throughout the dragonlair you will run into blocker mobs. Mobs which you cannot walk past. You will also find mobs which you can ignore entirely.

All dragon lairs follow the same basic room format of cavern, fire and water.

Fire rooms will proc fire as you walk through them and cause players to catch fire. Be sure to keep an eye out for burning players; cast create water on them to extinguish the flames.

Throughout the lair you will also need to traverse cramped rooms, you can distinguish these in their name. All cramped rooms will have a variation of "a narrow tunnel". These rooms are always in the same places depending on the layout of the lair, as you gain more experience you will know when these rooms are coming up.

Within the lair you will come across what is commonly referred to as the lake. On the lakes you will find Many-headed hydras, these are blocker mobs and will usually all be killed to make the return journey easier should you fail to make the dragon flee its lair on the first attempt. Long layout has 1 lake and the short layout has 2.

Noteworthy Mobs
  • Many-headed hydra: As noted before these will block your path through the lake.
  • Hatchling Dragons: Another blocker with high hitpoints.
  • Fire Jaguars: These mobs have a unique proc that will remove days from your equipment if it lands
  • Flame spirits: A humanoid formed from lava that procs fireballs. The fireballs travel a number of rooms. If you see fireball procs in your room a flame spirit is nearby.
  • Lavalanche: Another being made of lava that blocks your progress. This mob will also proc fireballs.
  • You will also come across a number of other blocker mobs which will be vanquished with relative ease and are not worth mentioning by name.
Lair Layout

Dragon lairs follow 2 distinct maps referred to as short and long layouts. Both layouts can spawn in one of four cardinal directions, and branch off to either the left or right giving us 16 lair layouts. While there are 16 different maps, remember there are only 2 basic maps.

The terms long and short were not derived from the number of rooms in the lair but rather the final approach to the dragon. The long layout has a long stretch of about 20 rooms in a straight line.
