Tips for New Combers |
- As a new comber it is recommended to focus on what is known as "Floor eggs". Eggs can load on the floor as well as on mobs. For the early egg requirements for MLR floor eggs should be sufficient for your need.
- Charming mobs is also a fast and recommended way for new combers to gather eggs. The best mobs to charm lichens, weeds, and sprites. Once you are level 30 you can charm eels in underwater caverns.
- As a new comber it is HIGHLY recommended to stay near the upper levels of the catacombs. As you venture deeper the mobs are more aggressive and deal more damage.
- If you are a thief or have been a thief in the past LOOK before you kill. Looking at a mob will also display their inventory where you will see carried eggs, you can also use the PEEK command this will only show inventory e.g.peek lichen.
- If you are able Shield room before taking on a fight, other mobiles will wander in and attack you if you are visible.
- Invisibility is key, invis will prevent you from being spotted by most mobs in the catacombs. If you are not able to cast the spell, invest in some invisibility wands or equipment which can produce the spell.
- You can cast fear on most mobs in the catacombs, if you are able to use this spell this can help you stay alive if you take on more than you can handle.
- Containers, lots and lots of containers. The more containers you have the more eggs you can carry. There are containers available for almost every equipment slot.
- You can determine how "fresh" catacombs are by how many eggs you find on the ground. Often Marious might tell you they have just been uncovered but you get there it seems as if no eggs are to be found. Another indicator of how viable combs are for your purposes is if the easy charm mobs (lichen, weeds, sprites) still have eggs in their inventory. You can also locate eggs (cast locate egg) , this is less helpful but will give you an idea of if the closest eggs are on the ground or on mobiles. The last indicator of how busy the Catacombs have been is the presence of the purple mapping text left by other players. When you cast map catacombs every room you enter will be "tagged" with your name. This helps you and other players see who has been where.
- If you prefer to see only your mapping text you can hide other players maps by using the command config display combs b to restore other players map text type config display combs a Config all will show you all available toggles. See HELP CONFIG for more information
