Wissahickon High School
World Language Department

The World Language Department of Wissahickon High School is committed to providing its students with the skills necessary to understand, speak, read, and write at the appropriate level in the target language and to be able to understand when spoken to. The study of grammar is designed to help the student to analyze his native language as well as to grasp the fundamentals of the foreign language which he is learning. The study of literature, history, and culture is focused on helping the student develop a feeling of self worth and of world citizenship through an understanding of the historical background and culture and heritage of the people for whom the language is a native tongue. Ideally, by achieving a level of proficiency and fluency, the learner should be capable of continuing the educational process in whatever channel he needs or wants, both for personal pleasure and occupational advantage.
